NEW YEAR'S DAY SKIN REBOOT:
Tips and Tricks For Surviving a Skincare Hangover
Can you believe it’s 2020 already? A new decade has arrived and I don’t even understand how we got here so fast, but we did. I can’t help but think of the day when we went from 1999 to 2000 and how we all thought technology was gonna become alive and robots were gonna takeover the world… Ok I was 9 at the time so my imagination took me far.
But here we are, 20 years later and I’m definitely not as young and bright as I was back then, which also means I don’t get to play around and have a full-of-activities-day after my New Year’s celebration, but worry not, as I prepared for this day ahead of time and have my whole January 1st treat-yourself journey planned already, and want to share it with you. So, just like me, you can detox and recover yourself from last night’s celebrations and start 2020 bright and shining like the diamond you are.
Drink Water… like ALL DAY LONG
Don’t know how deep you went into the drinking game last night, but we’re not here to judge, only to help! We all kinda know this one, but today I’m keeping an eye on it especially - AKA I have 2 water bottles on my nightstand to binge on, while, well, Netflix binging. Our bodies are 60% water, our blood is 90% water… we NEED water to be alive. Period. When we party, drink, or go outside of our regular sleeping schedule, our body loses lots of its hydration, and a dehydrated body will lead to dehydrated skin. We don’t want that. One of the main reasons behind skin disorders, wrinkles, and dullness is actually dehydration. We can put on all the serums, masks, and treatments we want to fight these back, but water is the starting point, so today make sure to drink up!
Sleeping Masks During Daytime
I can assure you today will be a makeup-free day for me, and as I don't have to worry about how my skincare mixes with my makeup formulas today, and my main intention remains hydration, I'm using a sleeping mask to finish my skincare routine in the morning. Personally I prefer the very lightweight ones as I still need to apply sunscreen on top, but I can assure you, your skin will be so thankful. Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask is usually my go-to whenever I feel like night-masking during daytime, and believe me, today is no exception.
Nighttime Double Nourish
Continuing on the hydration category, the day after I party, I like to do what I call “Double Moisture”. On the regular, whenever I’m going for a thick moisturizer I prefer to go for lightweight products on my previous routine, but on days like this, an oil-like essence is just a perfect combo to nourish up my routine. I used to be one of those people who thought oils were only meant for dry skin types. Thankfully, I opened my eyes to the facial oils world and now can’t live without them. I personally love mixing up Huxley’s Oil Essence with Neogen’s Code9 Black Volume Cream. Their textures are so, so different from each other yet somehow layer so incredibly well together. A must for my nighttime routine, on a day like today.
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Taking advantage of the day off, I’m doing something that will not only benefit me today but also the rest of the week. Gotta admit I’m not on top of my brush-cleansing routine. I know I should be more responsible about it as brushes and sponges can accumulate so much bacteria, it’s almost scary. So as a resolution for this year, I promise myself to clean my brushes and sponges at least once every 2 weeks, and yes, I’m going to start today.
Consume Antioxidants
Did you know, free radicals abound in the party atmosphere? Simply put, free radicals are the main cause of oxidation, which at the end of the day causes aging, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and many other skin problems. Yikes! While using antioxidants on your skin is important, it’s also very necessary to consume them. Nuts, berries, bright-colored fruits, and vegetables - these are some excellent sources of antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals and keep you protected so you can wave these struggles buh-bye. So, bowl of berries, here I go!
Of course these are just some of the things you can do in order to bring life back to your skin and body on New Year’s day. Just listen to your body, it’s telling you what it needs! And remember, hydration is a MUST today. Happy New Year!
